Daniel McClelland is a multi-instrumentalist composer. He self-recorded his debut album, Anxious Heart, in 2016 in New York, NY. The album sounds like "Michael Jackson's drums, with Nirvana's guitar, and The Beach Boys' harmonies." McClelland played every instrument himself, and sung every vocal part. Anxious Heart was mastered at Munki Studios by Mike Gibson, and was released August 6th, 2017 at BATS Theatre. More info available here. Subscribe to his newsletter here.

Anxious Heart received acclaim upon release, and was a finalist for the 2018 Auckland Live Best Independent Debut award. It charted at #2 on the NZ Heatseeker Album Charts. The record was positively reviewed throughout New Zealand, including on RNZ’s The Sampler.

McClelland’s next effort, Swallow Fear, saw him double-down on everything from the first record. More harmonies. More instruments. More Beach Boys-inspired orchestral and modular scope. More ambition in general. The efforts were recognised early on with the release of the record’s single and music video Blotted Out The Background. Happy Mag said “it’s incredible”. Swallow Fear releases worldwide November 24th, 2019.

In a previous life, Daniel performed musical comedy in Wellington, New Zealand. He played in Wellington's Fringe Festival and Comedy Festival, and was an opening act for Flight Of The Conchords.
